DSTI-NRF Postgraduate Student Application and Funding

The South African National Research Foundation (NRF),
in collaboration with the International Institute for Applied
Systems Analysis (IIASA), invites applications for the 2026
NRF-SASAC Doctoral Scholarship Call. This scholarship
program is part of the Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Member
Organisation (SSARMO) to IIASA and the Science Granting
Councils Initiative (SGCI) in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Objectives of the SASAC PhD Programme
The aim of the SASAC PhD programme is to provide
an opportunity for excellent young doctoral students to
advance their research under the direct supervision from
senior scientists in Africa and IIASA.
Areas of Support
This PhD scholarship program is open to candidates across
all fields of science, engineering, technology, social sciences,
and the humanities. Proposed research should align with
IIASA’s strategic priority areas and incorporate systems
analysis approaches, models, tools, and data to address
challenges at the global, continental, regional, or national
