Overview

Professor Zororo Muranda is the Chairman of the Research Council of Zimbabwe. He is a full Professor of Business and a widely respected researcher in business. He is currently with the Chinhoyi University of Technology and has worked for the past twenty nine years as a university lecturer and professor. Muranda is the recent, past Pro Vice Chancellor (Business Development and Resource Mobilisation), at the Chinhoyi University of Technology. He is currently serving as the President of the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe, an association of marketing practitioners and academics in the country. Professor Muranda has also served as a non-executive director of the ZB Financial Holdings Board.

Career

Professor Muranda worked as a lecturer and Chairman of the Department of Business Studies at the University of Zimbabwe from 1992 to 2003. In 2003 Professor Muranda moved to the Midlands State University to take up the position of Executive Dean. Having shown acumen in this position the professor was appointed the Chinhoyi University of Technology's Executive Dean in 2004.  He served as Dean at Chinhoyi University up to July 2006 and in August 2006 he was then appointed to Acting Pro Vice Chancellor of the university. Thereafter, in 2009, he moved to the University of Botswana and served as Chairman of the Department of Management up to December 2012. He re-joined the Chinhoyi University of Technology in March 2013 as Dean of the School of Entrepreneurship and Business Sciences. Professor Muranda is currently serving as an External Examiner for  Lupane State University and the University of Namibia. He has previously served as external examiner with the National University of Science and Technology, the University of the North West in South Africa, Solusi University, Africa University, ABM University College in Botswana, and Great Zimbawe University (formerly Masvingo State University). Through his vast experience he has been involved in examining postgraduate students up to doctoral level in Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa. He has taught and supervised Masters’ and Doctoral candidates in various universities.


Education

Professor Muranda undertook a Bachelor of Business Studies (Honours) degree with the University of Zimbabwe from 1987 to 1989.  Soon after completion he joined the Edgars Group under the Express Stores division as a trainee manager. In July 1990 he re-joined the University of Zimbabwe as an MPhil fellow on an IFO (Munich) fellowship researching on entrepreneurship and small business management.  On completion in 1992 he was offered a position to join the the university's Department of Business Studies as a lecturer.  In 1995 he registered for doctoral studies with the University of Zimbabwe in collaboration with Umea University of Sweden. Graduating with a doctorate in 1999 his focus was on export strategy and internationalisation of the textile and clothing companies in Zimbabwe.

Achievements

Professor Muranda, as the founding Dean, was instrumental in establishing the School of Entrepreneurship and Business Sciences at the Chinhoyi University of Technology. He was also instrumental in establishing the current School of Hospitality and Tourism, also at Chinhoyi University of Technology. Muranda also supervised the establishment of the CUT Hotel which doubles as a commercial entity and training centre for Hospitality & Tourism students. At the Midlands State University Professor Muranda introduced the MBA programme and the Banking and Finance programme. During his tenure with the University of Botswana he introduced the Bachelor of Business Administration (Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Management) and the Bachelor of Business Administration (Logistics and Supply Chain Management) degrees in the Department of Business Management. Professor Muranda has spearheaded the introduction of a Business Model culture at Chinhoyi University of Technology. Professor Muranda is a prolific researcher who has more than 40 publications comprising a book, book chapters, journal articles and refereed conference proceedings. His research interests and advisory are in strategy, international marketing, internationalisation, corporate social responsibility, corporate governance, and entrepreneurship. He has been and continues to be a facilitator in various business related areas.
